Rift Portals
Rifts are wave-based combat encounters in the resource worlds. You use a Rift Key to open a portal that spawns waves of hostile mobs. Kill them all before the timer runs out and you earn a reward chest with shards, upgrade cores, diamonds, gems, and more. Fail and you get nothing.
Rifts are one of the best ways to earn shards, upgrade cores, and gems. They're also a core part of progression — higher-tier keys give tougher fights but much better rewards.
HOW RIFTS WORK
1. Travel to a resource world (overworld, Nether, or End)
2. Right-click a Rift Key from your inventory
3. A 2-second tear animation plays as the portal rips open
4. After a brief delay, the first wave of mobs spawns around the portal
5. Kill all mobs in the wave to trigger the next one (2-second delay between waves)
6. Clear all waves before the timer expires to win
7. A reward chest appears at the portal location with a 30-second pickup timer
8. Open the chest, take your loot, and close it — the chest disappears once you close it or when the 30 seconds are up
If the timer runs out before you clear all waves, the portal collapses, remaining mobs despawn, and you get nothing.
DIFFICULTY TIERS
There are 5 tiers of Rift Keys, each harder than the last:
Common (green) — 2 waves, 3 mobs per wave, 2-minute timer
Uncommon (yellow) — 3 waves, 4 mobs per wave, 5-minute timer
Rare (blue) — 5 waves, 5 mobs per wave, 10-minute timer
Epic (purple) — 7 waves, 6 mobs per wave, 15-minute timer
Legendary (gold) — 10 waves, 8 mobs per wave, 20-minute timer
Higher tiers have stronger mobs with more health, more damage, and faster movement speed. The mob types also get harder — Common rifts spawn basic zombies and skeletons, while higher tiers include tougher enemies.
DIMENSIONS
Rift Keys come in 3 dimensions: Normal, Nether, and End. Each dimension's key can only be used in its matching resource world:
Normal keys — Use in the overworld resource world
Nether keys — Use in the Nether resource world
End keys — Use in the End resource world
Dimension affects rewards. Nether rifts give roughly 1.4x the rewards of Normal rifts. End rifts give roughly 1.9x the rewards. The same tier key is worth significantly more in a harder dimension.
REWARDS
Victory chests contain a mix of rewards that scale with both the tier and the dimension:
Shards
The primary reward. Amounts scale heavily with tier:
Common — 8 to 25 shards (Normal)
Uncommon — 15 to 40 shards (Normal)
Rare — 25 to 55 shards (Normal)
Epic — 45 to 90 shards (Normal)
Legendary — 90 to 220 shards (Normal)
Nether and End dimensions multiply these amounts.
Upgrade Cores
The dimension determines the core type:
Normal rifts drop End Crystals (Basic Cores)
Nether rifts drop Nether Stars (Enhanced Cores)
End rifts drop Dragon's Breath (Superior Cores)
Common tier gives 1 to 2 cores, scaling up to 3 to 6 at Legendary.
Diamonds
Scaling amounts from a few at Common to large quantities at Legendary.
Gems
Only available from Rare tier and above:
Rare — 1 to 3 random gems (1-star)
Epic — 3 to 8 random gems (1 to 2-star)
Legendary — 5 to 12 random gems (2 to 4-star)
Misc Items
Chance-based bonus drops including emeralds, lapis, redstone, amethyst, gold blocks, and netherite scraps. Higher tiers give more.
Iron and Gold
Base material rewards that scale with tier.
WHERE TO GET RIFT KEYS
Rift Keys come from several sources:
Shard Shop — Buy any tier and dimension with shards (150 to 5,000 shards depending on tier and dimension)
Daily login rewards — Common Rift Keys on Days 2 and 5 of the free tier
Mob drops — Small chance from killing mobs in resource worlds
Supply Expeditions — Low-weight chance to find Common and Uncommon keys
Daily quests — Some quest days involve completing rifts, which means you'll need keys
SHARD SHOP KEY PRICES
Normal dimension: Common 150, Uncommon 350, Rare 700, Epic 1,400, Legendary 3,000
Nether dimension: Common 200, Uncommon 450, Rare 900, Epic 1,800, Legendary 3,500
End dimension: Common 300, Uncommon 600, Rare 1,200, Epic 2,400, Legendary 5,000
RESOURCE WORLDS AND PVP
Rifts can only be opened in resource worlds, and all resource worlds have PvP enabled. This means other players can attack you while you're fighting rift mobs. Be aware of your surroundings, especially with high-tier rifts where you'll be busy for a long time.
If you die in a resource world, you keep your hotbar, armor, and offhand. Only your main inventory (slots 9 to 35) drops. You respawn in your dungeon.
MOB BEHAVIOR
Rift mobs have custom colored names matching their difficulty tier. They don't burn in sunlight, can't pick up items, and won't despawn naturally. They drop normal vanilla loot when killed (in addition to the victory chest rewards).
Mobs spawn around the portal within a short radius. They spawn on solid ground — they won't appear floating over void or lava.
The portal itself is protected — you can't break the portal blocks.
TIPS
Start with Common and Uncommon rifts to learn the system. They're fast, forgiving, and still give useful rewards.
Epic and Legendary rifts are very difficult solo. The mobs hit hard and there are a lot of them. Bring friends or have strong gear with gems and upgrades.
End dimension rifts give the best rewards overall (1.9x multiplier), but the End resource world is the most dangerous. Nether rifts at 1.4x are a good middle ground.
Legendary End Rift Keys are the most expensive at 5,000 shards, but they can drop Superior Cores (Dragon's Breath), high-star gems, and over 200 shards — potentially paying for themselves.
Time management matters. Don't waste time chasing mobs that wandered away. Stay near the portal where they spawn and deal with them quickly.
The reward chest only lasts 30 seconds. Don't wander off after clearing the last wave — grab your loot immediately.
Mob drops from rift creatures still drop normally. A Luck Gem increases your chance of getting upgrade core drops from the mobs themselves, on top of the guaranteed cores in the victory chest.
