Expeditions

Expeditions

Expeditions let you send your Dungeon Master golem on solo resource runs. Your golem ventures out, fights through danger, and brings back loot. It's a passive system — you start it, check in on progress, and collect rewards when it's done.

How It Works

1. Open the expedition menu with /expedition or through your Echo (right-click Echo, then Expeditions)
2. Choose from 2 available expedition types
3. Your golem sets off on its journey
4. Every 10 seconds, your golem takes damage and has a chance to find loot
5. At 20% HP, the expedition pauses and you choose: return safely with your loot, or keep going for more
6. If your golem reaches 0% HP, it dies and all collected loot is lost
7. When returning, the travel time equals however long the expedition ran (ran 60 minutes = 60 minutes to return)
8. Once your golem arrives back, claim your loot from the expedition menu

You can check your expedition's progress at any time with /exp status.

The Risk vs Reward Decision

The key moment in every expedition is the 20% HP pause. You have two choices:

Return — Your golem heads home with everything it found. You keep all loot. This is the safe option.

Continue — Your golem pushes deeper. Damage gets heavier and loot gets better, but if HP hits zero, you lose everything. This is the gamble.

Early in the expedition, damage is light and your golem is safe. As time goes on, damage ramps up significantly. The longer you go, the more loot you collect, but the closer you get to losing it all.

A stronger golem (more hearts = more HP) survives longer, which means more loot rolls and more total rewards. Building up your hearts through raids directly improves your expedition results.

Here's roughly how long your golem lasts before the 20% HP warning:

500 HP (base golem) — about 30 minutes
1,500 HP — about 73 minutes
3,000 HP — about 100 minutes
5,000 HP — about 120 minutes

Expedition Types

When you open the expedition menu, you'll see 2 of the 4 types available. The selection changes, and you can reroll for 150 shards if you don't like the options.

Gold Expedition
Pure gold rewards. Your golem brings back gold ingots and gold blocks in varying amounts. Small bundles are common, large bundles are rare but very valuable. Best choice when you need gold for dungeon expansions or Auction House purchases.

Shard Expedition
Pure shard rewards. Returns are modest — even a strong golem only brings back around 200 to 270 shards per run. Since an Expedition Scroll costs 500 shards, shard expeditions aren't meant to be farmed for profit. They're useful when you need a small shard boost and don't want to spend shards on a scroll.

Gear Expedition
The most valuable type for endgame progression. Gear expeditions drop upgrade cores (End Crystals, Nether Stars, Dragon's Breath) and occasionally 1-star gems. The loot pool also includes basic materials like iron and diamond gear, but the real prize is the cores. Gems from gear expeditions are extremely rare (roughly 1 in 10 runs) and are non-upgradeable, but still useful for socketing.

Supply Expedition
A mixed bag of useful crafting materials. Primarily drops enchanted books and experience bottles. Also includes farming supplies, brewing ingredients, and occasionally Rift Keys or Trial Keys. Good for stocking up on consumables.

What Happens If Your Golem Dies

If your golem's HP reaches zero, the expedition ends and all collected loot is lost. You have two options:

Revive at Base (free) — Your golem returns with nothing. You lose all loot but pay nothing.

Revive and Keep Loot (600 shards) — Your golem returns with all collected loot intact. Expensive, but worth it if the loot haul was valuable.

You can also use a Revival Scroll (purchased from the Shard Shop for 800 shards) to revive with loot. The scroll works the same way but can be bought in advance and used when needed.

Returning Early

When your golem is heading home, the return trip takes as long as the expedition ran. If you don't want to wait, you have options:

Return Scroll (300 shards from the Shard Shop) — Instantly completes the return journey. Your golem arrives immediately with all loot.

You can also spend 200 shards directly from the expedition menu to return instantly without needing a scroll.

Cooldown

After completing an expedition (whether your golem returned or died), there's a 24-hour cooldown before you can start another one. APEX players get a reduced 20-hour cooldown.

The cooldown starts when the expedition ends, not when it starts.

If you don't want to wait, you can buy an Expedition Scroll for 500 shards from the expedition menu or the Shard Shop. This lets you skip the cooldown and start immediately.

Loot Chance

Your golem rolls for loot every 10 seconds during the expedition. The chance starts low (around 3%) and increases the longer the expedition runs. By the 60-minute mark, the chance per roll is about 6.6%. At 90 minutes, it's around 8.4%.

This means stronger golems that survive longer get significantly more loot — not just from having more rolls, but because later rolls have higher chances. A base golem might get around 31 loot rolls in a run. A maxed-out golem can get over 150.

Claiming Loot

When your golem returns, the loot is placed in a mailbox. It stays there safely, even through server restarts.

Open /expedition or /expedition status and click the Claim Loot button to collect everything. If your inventory is full, overflow items drop at your feet.

Offline Behavior

Expeditions keep running while you're offline:

If your golem is active, damage continues to tick. Missed ticks are replayed when the server restarts.

If your golem is paused at 20% HP, no damage happens while you're away. It waits for you to make a decision.

If your golem is returning and the journey finishes while you're offline, loot is automatically placed in your mailbox. You'll see it next time you log in.

Tips

Gear expeditions are the best long-term value. Upgrade cores are hard to get elsewhere and essential for endgame gear progression.

Don't continue past 20% HP unless you're confident or the loot is expendable. Losing everything hurts more than playing it safe.

Build up your hearts through raids before relying on expeditions. A stronger golem means longer runs and far more loot.

Save Expedition Scrolls for gear expeditions. Using a 500-shard scroll on a shard expedition that returns 200 shards is a net loss.

Revival Scrolls are expensive but worth it on a great gear run. If you see multiple upgrade cores in your loot log, spending 600 shards to keep them is usually the right call.

Rerolling expedition types costs 150 shards. Only reroll if you specifically need a gear or gold expedition and neither is available.
